Full Licence Training
Once you have successfully completed your CBT course, many people ask, “How do I get a full motorbike license?”. Full licence training is often referred to as direct access motorbike training (DAS). This course allows you to become licensed for the highest-powered motorbike you can ride for your age group.
Direct access motorcycle licence training enables you to train for and obtain the highest-level motorcycle licence for your age.
If you are 24 or over, you’ll be able to go straight to an ‘A’ licence and ride a higher-powered motorcycle. Some people choose to start on lower-powered bikes with an A1 (light) license, or an A2 (restricted) license.
We carry out our direct access course on a maximum 2 students to 1 instructor ratio. We’ll also maintain radio contact with you when on the road.
We’ll keep you updated on your progress throughout the direct access motorcycle licence training course. You’ll take all of your training near the town or city where you intend to take the test in.

Motorcycle Licence Tests
Once you complete DAS training, you’ll be ready for your test. Each motorcycle licence test is basically the same. The only difference being the power of the motorbike you will ride throughout the practical testing period. Lower-powered bikes (125cc) are used for AM and A1 level licences, while higher-powered bikes (500cc-650cc) are used for A2 and A (full) motorcycle licence testing.
The two parts of motorcycle licence testing
Module 1
Module One is on-site testing. That means it’s carried out away from all other traffic. We use a DVSA-approved test site with safe tarmac riding conditions and on-road testing.
Module 2
The second module of the test usually takes around 35 – 40 minutes and is on public roads covering a range of road and traffic conditions. A DVSA examiner will follow you for this period.
At Phoenix, we specialise in creating courses that most suit your ability and learning style. The best way to ensure you book the correct course is to talk to one of our fully trained call centre staff. They’ll be able to guide you through the best options for you based on your current level of experience and your availability.
Motorcycle licence training days are typically full 6-hour days. Licence test days are normally 2.5 to 3 hours. However, test timings and training requirements do vary from student to student.
