Our two motorcycle instructor training courses include:

Approved Motorcycle Instructor Training and The Award in Education and Training Level 3 combined course
Essentially, this course allows you to learn the instructional techniques for delivering Compulsory Basic Training Courses (CBT).
It course prepares you for the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency’s (DVSA) instructor assessment and includes everything you need to pass the test on your first try.
With this CBT instructor training course, you can expect to learn instructional techniques for delivering CBT, as specified by the DVSA. You will even be able to practice delivering the CBT to real students under instruction from your qualified tutor*.
The course is based around competences in understanding roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training. Understanding and using inclusive teaching and learning approaches in education and training as well as understanding assessment techniques, all of which are the key skills required to deliver motorcycle training in the modern world.
The course include all training materials and aids that will help you develop into a quality instructor and you will also gain the Award in Education and Training Level 3, which is a nationally recognised teaching qualification. Delivered using Microsoft OneNote, this hybrid course is backed up by practical on site training at a Phoenix location as well as support from one of our online tutors. We also have a range of AI Teaching and Stander check coaching tools as well
The course is designed for:
- Motorcyclists who wish to share their love of riding with new students.
- People aged 22 years or older and have held a full category A2 or A motorcycle licence for three years or more.
- Motorcyclists who want to work as motorcycle riding trainers or open their own motorcycle training school

Standards Check AI Coach
If you are an existing motorcycle instructor and simply want to brush up on your techniques for your Standards Check or CBT1 assessment, then you can access our AI coach for £20. Please note : this is not suitable to learn how to be an instructor, only to improve on your existing knowledge with a try before you buy facility.

A Blended Approach
Our Teams based programmes of learning are adaptable to your personal and work commitments. We schedule live training sessions to suit your diary, provide flexibility in how much of your qualification you want to undertake at any one time, and tailor how much support you need, dependent on your individual requirements. This is education for the 21st Century, where learning is on demand at a time and place to suit you. Our training team are experts in teaching and training and have delivered training across the world to a wide range of learners across many different sectors. We are passionate about making your experience as enjoyable as possible.
Online training requires an internet access, web browser and Microsoft TEAMs and is self paced learning.
Fully Inclusive Package – Recommended The cost is £1600 plus VAT or free if you commit to work for us for 2 years* and includes the Online material, AET Level 3 Qualification and on site training. On site training is carried out over 2 weeks (2 lots of 5 days) period at our National Training centre in Sidcup in London and, depending on how you progress, further tuition may be required before you apply for your assessment with the DVSA for CBT1.
Online Training Only. The cost is £599 plus VAT and includes the Online material, AET Level 3 Qualification with on site training that can be carried out at the ATB of your choice. You will need prior approval from this ATB to partake in this course
The assessment at one of the DVSA assessment centres is taken over a two-day period and, once you have successfully completed this, you are able to apply for the DVSA Certified Motorcycle Instructor Certificate for CBT, find work with a DVSA Approved Training Body (ATB) or even start your own ATB.
You will need to purchase your own course material if you are booking via the ELCAS system. We will send you a list of the two books required when booking.

DVSA-accredited ERS Motorcycle Instructor Course Level 3 Course
The Enhanced Rider Scheme is designed by The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA). It lets motorcyclists have their riding skills checked by a DVSA-approved trainer to help them become safer riders and get more from their motorcycling.
The ERS Motorcycle Instructor Course provides the training to become an Enhanced Rider Scheme (ERS) Instructor who is recognised by the DVSA. It requires a special test to ensure your motorcycle riding skills are of the highest standard.
The course covers 5 days and includes everything you need to pass your test on the first try and develop into a quality post-test instructor. This motorcycle instructor course is approved by the DVSA and will enable you to join the RPMT (Register of Post-Test Motorcycle Trainers).
There are 7 core modules to the ERS motorcycle instructor course, where we focus on your ability to train students in a structured approach to riding – understand defensive riding and hazard awareness, progress and use of speed, overtaking and filtering, bends and corners, slow control, and developing the correct rider attitude. The majority of the course material is based on Motorcycle Roadcraft. You will need to obtain a copy of this before the course starts.
The course also covers the delivery of training in many of the 12 extra modules:
- Effective braking techniques
- Riding for work: delivery or courier
- Biker Down and accident scene management
- Filtering (advanced level)
- Riding abroad
- Motorcycle maintenance and machine awareness
- Motorways and dual carriageways
- Blood bikers
- Mobile phones, GPS, sat nav and Bluetooth
- Carrying a passenger or load
- Group riding
- Training in alternative environments
This course is best for:
- Motorcycle instructors who wish to teach advanced riding courses.
- Motorcyclists who wish to reach the highest standard of motorcycling skill.
- Qualified advanced motorcycle instructors who want to join the Register of Post-test Motorcycle Trainers (ERS Register)
- Motorcyclists who have an advanced motorcycle qualification (IAM, RoSPA or DIAmond). You will also need to take an advanced theory test.
