With Christmas just around the corner, you might be wondering what to get your favourite motorcycle enthusiast or even a little something for yoursel...
Have you ever sat in a classroom and found your attention drifting out the window? Great teaching goes beyond knowing everything about your subject. It means adapting your approach to different learning styles to keep your audience following along with you. That’s why the Level 3 Award in Education and Training (RQF) is so helpful.
The qualification equips individuals with the critical skills for becoming a successful trainer in any discipline, including motorcycle instruction. Motorcycle instructor training traditionally focused on riding skills. But times change. The ability to effectively communicate and deliver engaging instruction is just as important. By next summer, all of Phoenix Motorcycle Training’s instructors will be Level 3 Award qualified. Our commitment to this qualification means our students get the best possible training experience. We’re boosting their chances of passing their motorcycle licence tests on their first try. But the benefits go beyond immediate results. The Level 3 Award in Education and Training (RFQ) opens doors to a wider range of training careers for our instructors. It’s a course that will empower anyone interested in teaching adults with the necessary skills to excel. And that’s why we’re adding it to the training courses we offer.
In short, the Level 3 AET teaches you how to teach. It’s useful for any subject, industry or discipline because it covers the basics of teaching adults and adapting content to suit different learning styles.
It’s an ideal qualification for trainers, instructors, and would-be teachers because the AET qualification covers teaching and learning approaches, the roles, responsibilities and relationships between education and teaching along with principles and practicalities of assessing students. The Level 3 AET with Phoenix is accredited by Ofqual in England and guided by the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RFQ), so it’s recognised across the UK.
The AET qualification is helpful in other sectors aside from motorcycle training. Passing builds credits towards higher education and teaching degrees. It’s a teaching-focused qualification that’s equivalent to an A level. This makes it an excellent choice for anyone interested in teaching, coaching or training, including new trainers, coaches and instructors who already teach adults.
Phoenix is the largest motorcycle training company in the UK. Our experience training hundreds, if not thousands of motorcyclists over the years, gives us a unique perspective when it comes to supporting you through the Level 3 AET.
We offer this course as blended training – partly online and partly self-led. You’ll learn in small groups for extra support and have access to online resources. We’ll also send you a book about teacher education. The flexibility of this training means you can fit it around your life – whether you’re working or studying a subject you’d eventually like to teach.
The Level 3 Award in Education and Training is broken into three segments over 6 weeks.
Module 1: Understanding the roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training. You’ll be introduced to the world of teaching. Equal opportunities, health and safety and the kinds of people you’ll be working alongside will be covered in this initial stage of the course.
Module 2: Using inclusive learning and teaching approaches. Remember that question about your attention drifting out the window in class? This module will help you understand why that happens to us all and what teachers can do to stop it from happening often. Inclusive teaching techniques let you support each learner’s needs.
Module 3:Understanding assessments. Not all tests are written ones. The final module covers different kinds of assessments, how to run them and the importance of keeping good records. The course finishes with a micro-teacher session where you’ll get to try your hand at teaching your group something new.
There is so much more to teaching than being passionate and knowing everything about your subject. That’s because we all learn at different rates and absorb knowledge, instruction and ideas in different ways. In simple terms, what makes sense to one person doesn’t click for another. There are simply different styles of learning. So instructors and teachers need to be able to adapt their teaching styles to match.
By taking all of our motorcycle instructors through the Level 3 Award in Education and Training, we’re bolstering their motorcycle instruction skills with broader teaching knowledge. It refines the instructional skills they already have, putting another feather in their teaching caps. That means they can adapt their teaching styles for different students who book courses with us.
It’s the same story for other motorcycle or driving instructors who want to get better at what they do. Understanding different teaching methods and styles of assessment makes you a better instructor. And if there ever comes a day when you decide you’d like to try something else, your AET qualification stands you in good stead.
The AET qualification isn’t only for motorcycle instructors. But motorcycle instructors with this qualification stand out as rounded and competent trainers. It’s the same thing for trainers, coaches and instructors in any other discipline. Holding this qualification shows you have the skills and understanding to adapt your teaching style to your student’s needs.
From driving instructors to trainers of automotive technicians or even sales trainers, learning how to deliver training in a way that builds confidence and competence in your students is essential. It can set you apart as an expert in your field – not just because you know the ins and outs of your subject, but because you understand the nuances of learning and can adapt your teaching style as needed.
The Level 3 Award with Phoenix typically takes six weeks to complete. Students learn in small groups for support with a mix of online and self-led learning. Each unit has a short assignment at the end. The final module finishes with a micro-teaching session which is part of your assessment.
The Level 3 Award with Phoenix costs £550 and includes all online resources and a copy of Ann Gavell’s book on teacher education.
You must be 19 years of age or older to take the AET course. Access to a computer with an internet connection is also necessary as part of the course is taken online. You’ll need a webcam and mic to connect with your learning group. And, of course, you must be willing and able to invest the necessary time for learning.
Each module has a short assignment that needs to be completed before moving on to the next module. The third and final module finishes with a micro-teaching session given to the small group you have taken the course with. You’ll get your Level 3 AET certificate after completing each module and assignment successfully.
After gaining a Level 3 AET qualification, students may go on to learning and development roles with larger businesses, begin teaching or coaching students over the age of 16, or progress to higher teaching qualifications.
The Level 3 AET is the first step to becoming a motorcycle instructor with Phoenix Motorcycle Training. You’ll need additional motorcycle instructor training to teach people how to ride a motorcycle.
